The Age of Aquarius

The Age of Aquarius tells the story of the friendship between two young women, Maikki and Annikki, and their hitchhiking trip across Europe in 1971. The story is told through Maikki's travel diary, which Annikki reads over 40 years later on her journey to Stockholm, prompting her to reflect on their friendship and its demise. The narrative intertwines Annikki's life stages after her retirement with the story of the girls' shared journey, which also began with a boat trip to Stockholm.

Ulla-Kirstin Junttila's novel is partly based on the author's own hitchhiking trips in Europe in the early 1970s.
